Sinking Qi: When Everything Is Falling Out
Qi is pronounced like /chi/, same as the words 'cheat' and 'cheap'
Sinking spleen Qi refers to an ENERGY deficiency in the body.
{I just love the English translations of some of these TCM patterns!}
Sinking Qi is a diagnostic term in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Two people in my practice came to me this week with this pattern of imbalance. So, I thought I'd share about it in case you or someone you care about might be dealing with this too.
These are some of the key symptoms of this pattern of imbalance. You don't need to have them all to have "Sinking Qi":
- Fatigue, weakness and “heavy limbs”
- One might push for hard work and later collapse into exhaustion
- Spontaneous sweating
- Poor appetite and bloating after eating
- Sugar/Carbohydrate cravings
- Easy catching of colds or flu
- Heavy menstrual periods
- Frequent urination or incontinence
- Loose stools, especially first thing in the morning
- Depression or listlessness
- Possibly, prolapses
and in whom is this pattern commonly seen?
Moms with young (or especially challenging) children at home, YES!
Oh my dear precious moms, It just breaks my heart when I see you this way.
We give and give and give...juggling so much...carrying the weight of our children's future health and happiness on our shoulders. Eventually though, we run out of the energy (Qi) we require to hold everything “up” and in its rightful place. Without enough Qi everything sinks and “leaks” out!.
I could tell you to take more time for yourself...
Take naps
Put your feet up more
Eat hearty homemade meals
Say “NO” more
...because that is the cure!
But, even knowing that truth myself, I wasn’t able to do enough of those things to restore ENERGY RESERVES during those early parenting years.
I needed Nature's help!
